The Short Mantras on Great/Universal Compassion and Kindness are devoted to the following bodhisattvas: Kuan Yin/Chenrezi and Tara
The short mantras are as follows:
Bodhisattvas Avalokitesvara/Kuan Yin//Tibetan Chenrezi (The Dharani of Great Compassion)
• OM MANI PADME HUM
Boddhisattvas Tara(The Goddess Of Universal Compassion)
• OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SVAHA
In Tibet, “Om Mani Padme Hum” is the most common mantra chanted by the Tibetan people. We see those people chanting this mantra when walking on the street. Next in popularity of chanting is the mantra of Tara's “Om Tare Tuttare Ture Svaha” Compassion.
Both mantras represents virtuous and enlightened action. It is said that these Bodhisattvas’ compassion for living beings are stronger than “a mother's love for her children.”
The followers of these Bodhisattvas believe that by chanting these mantras, it will help them to further their longevity, protect them on earthly travel, and guards them on their spiritual journey to enlightenment.
